TrackStar Lock Technology
We developed TrackStar as an integrated security solution that goes beyond traditional key locks. The system uses wireless connectivity to let you lock and unlock your BAKFlip MX4 TS from your smartphone, even when you’re not at the vehicle.
Every MX4 TS includes a tamper-proof lock cylinder that mounts flush with the side rail. The electronic deadbolt engages automatically when you walk away from the truck, and you can grant temporary access to family members or service providers through the TrackStar app. The system alerts you if someone attempts to force the cover open, and the battery backup ensures functionality even if your truck battery dies.
Aluminum Panel Construction
Each panel in the BAKFlip MX4 TS measures approximately 15 inches wide and spans the full width of your truck bed. We build them from solid aluminum sheets that we powder-coat in a durable matte black finish, providing scratch resistance and UV protection that won’t fade over time.
The aluminum construction gives you serious impact resistance without adding excessive weight to your truck. A full MX4 TS cover typically weighs between 70 and 95 pounds depending on your bed length, which is light enough for one person to install but heavy enough to stay secure in high winds. We reinforce the hinge points with stainless steel hardware that won’t rust or corrode in wet climates.
Installation & Compatibility
We manufacture the MX4 TS for most popular truck models from 2000 to present, including Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ram 1500-3500, Toyota Tundra and Tacoma, and Nissan Titan. Each cover is vehicle-specific and ships with all mounting hardware and installation instructions.
The clamp-on rail system mounts directly to your bed rails without drilling. You’ll position the rails along the inside edge of your bed, secure them with the provided C-clamps, and attach the cover panels to the rails using our pivot hinges. The entire process takes 30 to 45 minutes with basic hand tools.

No drilling is required. The MX4 TS uses a clamp-on rail system that secures to your existing bed rails with heavy-duty C-clamps. The installation is completely reversible, so you can remove the cover without leaving permanent modifications to your truck bed. The TrackStar lock module also mounts using the rail clamps and doesn't require additional holes.
Yes. The MX4 TS includes a physical key cylinder as a backup to the smartphone system. You can lock and unlock the cover using the traditional key method even if your phone battery dies or you don't want to use the app. The smartphone functionality is optional, though most customers prefer it for the convenience and security alerts.
The MX4 TS is compatible with spray-in bed liners and most drop-in liners. The rail clamps are adjustable to accommodate the added thickness of a liner. If you have a thick drop-in liner with very tall sides, you may need to trim the liner slightly at the rail mounting points to ensure a proper seal. We recommend installing the cover after your bed liner is in place.
The aluminum panel construction and positive locking mechanism keep the cover secure at highway speeds and in strong winds. Yes. When you fold all four panels completely open, they rest against the cab and are secured with retention straps. You can then lower your tailgate for full bed access without the cover interfering. We provide a lifetime warranty on the aluminum panels and all structural components against defects in materials and workmanship. The TrackStar electronic lock system carries a three-year warranty covering the module, wiring, and smartphone connectivity features. Normal wear items like seals and straps are covered for two years. The warranty is transferable if you sell your truck with the cover installed.
The powder-coated finish is highly resistant to scratches from normal use. Minor scuffs from loading cargo or tools typically don't penetrate the coating. If you do get a deeper scratch that exposes bare aluminum, we include a touch-up paint pen with every MX4 TS for quick repairs. The matte finish also hides minor imperfections better than glossy finishes, and the aluminum underneath won't rust even if the coating is compromised.
